Itinerary
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you’ll be welcomed by your guide, who will provide a briefing on the adventure that awaits. After settling into your hotel, enjoy a relaxing evening as you prepare for the thrilling journey ahead. Depending on your arrival time, optional activities in Entebbe, such as a sunset cruise on Lake Victoria or a visit to the Entebbe Botanical Gardens, may be arranged.
Travel north to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest national park, known for its stunning waterfalls and diverse wildlife. Begin your exploration with an early morning game drive, where you’ll encounter elephants, lions, giraffes, and various antelope species against the backdrop of sweeping savannahs.
On Day 3, experience a Nile River cruise, a safari highlight. As you journey upstream towards the powerful Murchison Falls, marvel at hippos, crocodiles, and a plethora of bird species along the riverbanks. The boat stops near the base of the falls, allowing you to hike to the top for a spectacular view of the roaring falls.
Drive southwest to Kibale Forest National Park, often called the “Primate Capital of the World.” Home to 13 primate species, Kibale offers one of Africa’s most accessible and immersive chimpanzee tracking experiences. Begin your adventure with an early morning trek on Day 5, accompanied by experienced guides.
As you navigate the lush forest, you’ll observe chimpanzees up close as they feed, play, and communicate. After the chimpanzee trek, you’ll visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a rich ecosystem teeming with unique bird species, monkeys, and swamp-dwelling plants.
Continue your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you’ll embark on a classic safari experience across the diverse landscapes of this famous park. Known for its tree-climbing lions, Kazinga Channel, and vast savannas, the park offers an incredible variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, and numerous bird species.
Day 7 includes a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that attracts hippos, crocodiles, and a stunning array of waterbirds. This boat trip provides an up-close view of animals gathering at the channel, making it one of the best spots for wildlife photography in Uganda.
Venture south to the Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its rare tree-climbing lions. Spend the day on a guided game drive, hoping to catch sight of these majestic cats perched in the branches of fig trees. Ishasha also offers encounters with buffalo, elephants, and various antelope species, making it a unique safari destination within the larger park.
Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth. Bwindi is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
On Day 10, embark on an awe-inspiring gorilla trekking experience. The trek can be physically challenging, but the chance to spend an hour observing a gorilla family in their natural habitat is a reward beyond compare. Led by experienced trackers, you’ll gain insight into gorilla behavior and enjoy unforgettable close encounters.
After your time in Bwindi, cross the border into Rwanda, making your way to Lake Kivu. Relax and unwind by the lake, known for its calm waters and picturesque shores. Optional activities include a boat ride to nearby islands or a visit to local fishing communities. This day offers a refreshing break before the next thrilling wildlife encounter.
Head to Volcanoes National Park, a legendary destination where mountain gorillas and golden monkeys thrive. Begin your day with golden monkey tracking, a captivating experience that allows you to observe these lively and colorful primates in their natural bamboo forest habitat. The hike is easier than gorilla trekking and offers a unique perspective on Rwanda’s biodiversity.
Conclude your journey with a tour of Kigali, Rwanda’s capital. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving tribute to the resilience of the Rwandan people, and explore the city’s vibrant markets and craft centers. After lunch, you’ll be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure, marking the end of an incredible 13-day safari adventure across Uganda and Rwanda.
